A Life of Helping Others
Louise Hanson
Seattle, Washington

Let me introduce Louise, a truly remarkable, selfless and powerful woman. Over 12 years ago she gave up all of her worldly possessions, except one, and answered the call to do God?s work.

Louise left her career, sold her home and possessions and has devoted her life to her calling: To bring the highest standard of care and concern to people passing through crisis. To best portray her efforts I will share a few examples of the countless people she has helped.

A young professional woman was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. The tumor impaired her vision and ability to work, she was incorrectly denied welfare benefits and she had no living family, as her adoptive parents had died. Louise?s involvement kept this young, vital woman out of a nursing home. Louise cared for her total needs for three years until she passed away. At the end of the woman?s life, Louise located her biological mother and arranged their reunion while providing the financial and emotional support; orchestrated and provided the funeral; and finally dispersed her belongings and closed out her apartment.

Louise was also instrumental in aiding in the recovery of a ten-year-old boy who was so severely burned in an accident that he was declared as having no hope and a 70-year-old man who was bed ridden from alcohol use to the point of almost total deterioration.

A typical day for Louise starts in prayer. At the same time she will have a stew simmering on the stove and a client?s laundry going. Next she will load up her donated vehicle with clean laundry, nourishing stew, fruit, bread, flowers and many times, something humorous or inspirational?if it?s a child she?ll have balloons and treats. She brings the physical and emotional necessities to each of her cases on a daily basis. In a ten-hour period she will usually visit two hospitals, one nursing home, and two shut-ins. If a person becomes very ill she will stay with them for two or three days. If there is a death she will provide all the necessary support in all areas. She does this day in and day out, seven days a week.

Louise will never turn down someone in need and will always find the means to help them. A dear friend of hers started a foundation to raise money to support her efforts. The support to the foundation is used 100% for the cause with no overhead as volunteers do all of the work. The needs are endless and the means limited?a fact that does not impede Louise in her devotion to others. She will prevail. It is my belief that sharing her story will perpetuate her work by inspiring others to extend a hand in care.
