Man risks life to save boy
Marvin Gordon
Rt. 28, Wareham, MA

He stopped his car and got out to help a 9-year old boy cross a dangerous 4-lane non-divided highway. The first lane of traffic stopped for him to walk across but a teenager speeding in the second lane didn't. She hit him going about 40 mph. He went up on her hood and hit his head against the windshield. he pushed the boy out of the way (the boy broke his collar bone). My father was hit and was critically injured. He spent 3 weeks in Surgical Intensive Care and then another 4 weeks in a rehab hospital. He suffered a brain injury, broken ribs, a broken shoulder, completely torn rotator cuff, and a shattered lower left leg, which was repaired with a titanium rod. His skull fracture extended near his ear. He has permananently lost hearing in one ear. Despite the long road of recovery he still has, he has never for one moment regretted his actions to help the boy. He is not vengeful, either, and did not want charges pressed against the driver and isn't going to sue her.

He is an outstanding member of his community. He is involved in many civic projects for which he receives no compensation. He is the president of a not-for-profit senior housing development and is on state financing boards. He has been active in local town politics for forty years. He was a school committe member, a selectman, and has served on various other committees.
