Helping Kids Around the Clock
Janice Boykin
Chicago, Illinois

From 12/2001 til present.

Janice Boykin had a dream: to make twenty-four hour childcare services available to teen, single and young parents to help mitigate circumstances of child abuse and neglect. While pursuing her MSW at Loyola University in Chicago, she decided to make this dream a reality. She took a chance, rented a facility and started a not-for-profit organization called "Tic Tock Around the Clock Child Care Providers" to provide these critical childcare services to families in need.

She used her hard-earned money to prepare the facility, while continuing to attend school to ensure her credibility to run the agency when it opened. She maintained a 3.61 GPA or better, worked a full-time job and established "Tic Tock" as a certified non-for-profit organization during the year of 2002 so that the agency can solicit funds for the services it provides.

Janice has served as an excellent role model for me and for others. We have witnessed her put her own personal desires and needs on hold to make her dream of improving the lives of young children and single families come true. She is 47 years old, a widow, a survivor of domestic violence and a mother of four who has put herself and three of her children through college. She is my mother, but she exemplifies true Christianity and truly believes that "it's only what you do for Christ (and his kingdom) that will last.?
