When Jay Davidson learned that many of our homeless live on the streets due to chemical addictions, he knew that one of the most sensible ways to combat the problem would entail overcoming the addiction and addictive behavior. He joined a number of like-minded individuals and founded The Healing Place to undertake just such a mission.
Jay has faithfully served at The Healing Place for almost fifteen years as one of the pioneers who designed and implemented the now nationally recognized recovery/homeless shelter program. He goes far beyond the call of duty in trying to make a difference in his community, from presenting arguments before our legislative officials to attending court on behalf of Healing Place Clients to argue for deferring their jail time for continued treatment. In all his efforts, Jay has worked tirelessly. He is unfailingly dedicated to helping men and women lead clean and sober lives, and he has established what has become an award-winning recovery program to help reach this goal.
Often the first one to arrive and the last one to leave our offices, Jay always takes every opportunity to support staff, clients, handle program issues, and generate greater awareness and support for homelessness intervention and substance abuse treatment.
Because of Jay Davidson's great work, people from all over the world have come to The Healing Place to learn his strategies in creating and sustaining such a successful grassroots outreach program. Given that The Healing Place began in Louisville, Kentucky and has since spread to cities, states, and even countries far and wide, from North Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, to as far away as Russia, Jays work has truly reached out and helped make the world a better place. A 63-year-old military veteran, Jay Davidson intends to retire in a few years to take a well-earned rest. But in the meantime, he continues to epitomize what it means to serve ones community, country, and society, one homeless person at a time.
