Helping the Needy in Various Ways
Theresa Clifton
Merritt Island, Fla.

Since 1991, Theresa Clifton has actively supported the community’s underprivileged and/or abused children, homeless animals, and the environment. Theresa works full-time yet has time to help others. She is dedicated to helping children, animals and the underprivileged. In the past several years, Theresa has received numerous awards and recognition for her volunteer efforts. From gaining support for the humane treatment of animals to assisting local children in need, Theresa is committed to serving her community through her efforts.

One organization that she is involved with, Guardian Ad Litem, provides abused and/or neglected children representation in court, social service agencies, and the community. Another program, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, provides underprivileged children from single parent homes with a “big” to share their time, give guidance, and especially friendship in an attempt to teach or inspire the children to make something of themselves. Then, of course, there are the animals. Theresa has been a board member since 1994 with the Central Brevard Humane Society (CBHS) and spends countless hours selling t-shirts, calendars, and guiding the organization into the 21st century through modernization with computers and automated telephone systems. In July of 1995, Theresa helped form “The Space Cats Club,” an organization dedicated to saving the feral cats on Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida.

In addition to these organizations, Theresa is involved in a wide variety of other volunteer efforts. She serves as a volunteer classroom teacher for Junior Achievement, participated in the Take Stock in Children Mentoring Program, and has dedicated time to volunteer for a number of local non-profit organization fundraisers, including Crosswinds Youth Services, The March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, The American Cancer Society, Cape Canaveral Hospital Cancer Care Foundation, Cocoa Sharing Center Food Bank, and the Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless, just to name a few.

Theresa Clifton is intensely dedicated to the organizations she is a part of and exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism in all that she does. Her selfless commitment to local causes relating to the care of children, animals, and the underprivileged is admirable.
