An Angelwish for Kids with AIDS
Shimul Mehta
Rutherford, New Jersey

Shimul Mehta is the founder and CEO of Angelwish.org, an online organization developed to allow the public to grant wishes to the millions of children that are living with HIV/AIDS around the world. By utilizing the power of the Internet, Angelwish adds a ray of hope to the lives of children in desperate need.

Shimmy has developed a way to make giving as simple as a few mouse clicks, which is crucial in this age of over-committed work schedules. I think his vision points to the future of corporate giving in America, and his example could easily be replicated to meet additional areas of need in this country, and around the world.

Shimmy gives 20-40 hours per week to Angelwish, in addition to his fulltime job, hoping people will take advantage of digital philanthropy. Knowing that everyone can make a difference, Shimmy developed Angelwish so companies could provide their employees a convenient way to share their good fortune with those in need.

Shimmy is 28, and while his peers focus on their own careers, he has taken that extra step on behalf of others. He often reminds me that there is the work you do to make a living, and then there are those things you do that are your life’s work. His tireless devotion to the needs of children that are the beneficiaries of the gifts that Angelwish provides is without parallel.
