Bringing Books to the Mountainside
P. Caitlyn Day
New Castle, Virginia

As a teen-ager enraptured by the beauty of books, J. Caitlyn Day has brought the gift of reading by starting a library for her tiny community in the mountains of Virginia.

Caitlyn began the project in 2001, at the age of 15. Since then, she has collected more than 10,000 books for the new library.

In addition, Caitlyn has helped acquire the building for the new library, has raised money through a nonprofit organization named the Craig County Friends of the Library, and has worked with college student volunteers & adult volunteers to organize the books as they come in.

The project will come to fruition in April 2004, when the library will open its doors. Already, plans for a larger library with a computer lab are underway. Thanks to Caitlyn Day, everyone in New Castle, Va., will be able to enjoy books soon enough. Her goal was to have the Craig County Library open before she graduated from high school - and she will reach her goal!!
