Empowering Youth in Troubled Region
Fadi Elsalameen

Fadi is 20 years old and the oldest of 9 children. He grew up in a very poor area in the West Bank. A student at Earlham College with a full scholarship, Fadi has already spoken to audiences including the United Nations, President Clinton, Secretary of State Powell, and many other world leaders, as well as communities on youth empowerment, conflict resolution, and the importance of coexistence and dialogue in the Middle East.

At the age of 20, Fadi created a non-profit called Voice of Arab Youth to train fifty youth (ages 18-25) from all over the Arab world. The organization focuses on creating projects in the fields of micro-enterprise, small businesses and fundraising, managing local organizations, protecting the environment, mapping community resources, and expanding health services.

Fadi also gave Palestinian and Israeli children the chance to produce an art exhibit at the American University in Washington, DC. In addition, he is in the process of creating the West Bank Institute for Peace and is developing part of a university curriculum that, for the first time, will allow students to obtain a BA. in Peace Studies at Hebron University in the West Bank.

Fadi is a full time student, majoring in biochemistry and political science, but his determination and passion to help other always pushes him to do more.
