Dairyall Bishop has always worked hard on her studies and excelled in school, where she has won top regional honors for her writing, composition, and speech skills. But Dairyall has also worked to help her family, neighbors, and people in the community. Even as a little girl, Dairyall wanted to help others: when she was only 10-years old, Dairyall volunteered as a tutorial helper for school children in our low income community. When she became older, Dairyall started up a donation drive, called, "A Penny Tossed, A Project Gained," to help feed 400 needy families in the community.
To fund her program, Dairyall went throughout the community soliciting whatever contributions donors could pay, from pennies to many dollars at a time. With her collection, she purchased food to feed the needy. Not only did Dairyall build a network of regular donors, but she also donated her own money to fund the purchase of the food, and personally helped distribute the goods and produce to those in need.
Dairyall has aided her community in other ways, too. She helped lead local efforts to fight drug crime, working along with her mother and local community policemen in outreach, neighborhood watch initiatives, as well as tutoring for latchkey kids. She taught them to choose study over drugs, to fight to keep their community clean, and to believe in themselves. By her own example and commitment, Dairyall teaches at-risk kids that one person can make a difference, no matter his or her age.
Dairyall Bishop is an outstanding young citizen. She excels in school, creates and leads programs to help her community. Wise and compassionate beyond her years, Dairyall did all of the house chores, tended the personal needs, and provided comfort to her grand-father when he was dying of cancer. Whether raising money for A Penny Tossed, A Project Gained, tutoring at-risk kids, or tending ailing family members and elderly neighbors, this young student inspires us all. By her examples and by her accomplishments, Dairyall Bishop helps us look out for each other in times of need, and make our community a better place to live.
