Dr. Ludy Green left her lucrative job as the vice president of human resources in a major firm to start a non-profit that serves victims of domestic violence. While numerous non-profit and government organizations specializing in health, legal, and psychological counseling exist to help victims of domestic violence, precious few organizations exist to help women find meaningful employment with full benefits for their children.
To address this crucial problem, Dr. Green founded Second Chance Employment Services as a solution. Lack of a viable source of income, career opportunities, and accesses to health care often dissuades women from leaving abusive relationships. Such victimized women often fear they will subject their children to lower standards of living -- or abject poverty. Second Chance Employment Services provides the means to independence, dignity, and safety to abused women by providing access to the job market as the route to a better life for them and their children, as well. As the organization’s founder and president, Dr. Green works tirelessly on behalf of her clients, and her days go well beyond the nine-to-five job.
Helping abused women has become Dr. Green’s mission. She believes the key to ending the vulnerability, if not virtual imprisonment, of at-risk women often comes in a large measure by providing them financial independence and a viable chance to make a better life for themselves and their children. Toward these goals, Dr. Green works around the clock, on weekends, and even on vacations, all to give her clients a Second Chance. She has also worked to bring the economic components behind domestic violence to the forefront of the public attention.
For over three years, Dr. Ludy Green has helped hundreds of domestic violence victims to rebuild their lives, and she doesn't take one penny for these services. Her organization has placed 320 women in meaningful careers and served over 700 others by providing for their additional needs, such as surgery, dentistry, childcare, housing, and transportation. By providing hope and the actual means for women to escape abusive relationships as well as the economic means to raise their children, Dr. Green is a true hero to all of the women she has helped.
