Volvo for life Awards Hero: Pam Stack
Award Brings New Opportunities, Exposure for Recipient
posted: 06/02/2005

Fifteen years ago Pamela Stack became the victim of brutal domestic violence, but since her attack she has used her experience and knowledge to become South Florida’s leading advocate for family violence prevention. She co-founded the “Save-a-Life-Campaign” and now educates residents about the devastation of domestic violence and how to keep it from happening. Her extraordinary efforts earned her one of the 1st Annual Volvo for life Awards and recognition as one of “America’s Greatest Hometown Heroes.” Since the honor, Stack has not slowed down. She remains closely tied to the domestic violence prevention cause and has used the award to broaden her organization and cause’s horizons.
“The Volvo for life Award really brought a lot of attention to domestic violence in Miami,” Stack said. “It gave me the ability to expand my reach to help others.”

As a Volvo for life Award winner, Stack received a $50,000 charitable contribution. The Volvo donation was invested in various violence prevention organizations, victim advocate programs and Rebuilding Together, an organization dedicated to renovating homes for the elderly and disabled.

Following the ceremony and publicity, the Miami Board of County Commissioners issued a Proclamation and Day of Honor for Stack. She was able to use this recognition to form new relationships with other individuals dedicated to her cause, including Paula Lucas a 3rd Annual Volvo for life Award winner. In addition to connections made, Stack also partnered with South Florida Volvo retailers.

“The dealerships are now corporate underwriters of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Emergency Relief Luncheon,” Stack said. “They also donate scholarships to victims in need of financial assistance.”

As an advocate, Stack says she isn’t looking for recognition, but it’s a wonderful thing when it happens. With this support she hopes to further expand the “Save-a-Life-Campaign” and collaborate with other agencies statewide. An upcoming “Victim Impact Panel” brings her one step closer to that goal.

“We’re bringing perpetrators together with victims, so they can understand the impact of the crime they committed and how so many things in life are affected and changed by violence.”
These new found opportunities represent an effort for Stack that will not end until enough public awareness has been raised to eliminate domestic violence altogether.

“Until the day that the crimes end and the public says it is time to stop, I will be fighting for violence prevention and victim advocacy,” Stack said. “I’m praying for the day when there is no longer a need for what I do.”
