Robina Suwol's Legislation Goes to the Governor's Office

A finalist in the "Environment" category of the 3rd Annual Volvo for life Awards, Robina Suwol has great news to report. Her organization--California Safe Schools--teamed up with Assembly member Cindy Montanez to steer environmental legislation through the Assembly, Senate hearings, and right up to the Governor's office. There it awaits his signature for passage. Suwol credits the Volvo for life Awards for giving her group new momentum. She used the $25,000 donation she received as a finalist to help strengthen California Safe Schools' lobbying efforts and alliance building. Among those groups who have joined the effort are the California Medical
Association, California Teachers Association, California School Boards, Los Angeles Unified School District, California State PTA, including the environmental health and environmental justice organizations. As a result, AB 405, now has a fighting chance of closing loopholes that permit the use of experimental pesticides at K-12 public school sites. This will make schools much safer for the more than six million students and hundreds of thousands of teachers and school employees in California. "This work is always collaborative," she says. "I can't express enough gratitude for all of the support we have received. It has been instrumental in making our schools and communities environmentally safe."
