KID urges safety first for users of children’s products donated in hurricane relief effort
2005 September Email Alert.

As Americans and the world continue their generous contributions to aid hurricane survivors, Linda Ginzel and her organization, Kids In Danger (KID), have prepared a short list of safety guidelines regarding children's products donated in the post-Katrina relief effort.

Even after surviving disasters such as hurricanes, fires or floods, too many children have died in dangerous cribs, often donated to their families with the best intentions. Kids in Danger would like to pass on these guidelines about safe sleeping and safe products for babies to shelter workers, donors, volunteers and others:

  • The safest sleeping place for babies is a fully assembled crib or portable crib with a firm-fitting mattress with a fitted sheet

  • No soft bedding should be placed in the baby's sleep environment

  • Babies should be placed on their backs and kept at a comfortable temperature, not overdressed

HELP KID TODAY!
Help raise money for KID in New York. On October 19, 2005, please join KID in Manhattan for a tour of the MOMA, followed by a reception and silent auction at the Time & Life Building, in honor of Andrew Harrison Sage. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be none other than WNBC-TV’s anchor, Lynda Baquero. For more information about this event and information about donated baby products for Katrina survivors, please visit: www.kidsindanger.org
