Fay and the children of Uganda

Fay DeAvignon, one of our current Volvo for life Awards nominees, was thrilled when her letter to Val Kilmer was published on his Web site. The letter, which appears in the “fans” section of the site, praises Val’s work as an actor. It also expresses gratitude to Val for his interest in Africa – and for playing the part of a Volvo for life Awards judge this year.

Africa is a major area of interest for Fay, whose own work centers on Uganda. Her organization, Angels of Hope, provides medical supplies to the orphans and the poor of that country. In addition, Fay raises awareness in the United States for the plight of the Ugandan people.

In her letter, Fay describes her organization and its work, as well as its role in informing Americans about African issues. “Though we are a small nonprofit,” writes Fay, “our hope for change knows no bounds. I simply share my experiences with the people of this country and show them just how much of an impact one individual can make in the lives of others, even on continents many Americans may never even see in their own lifetime.”

Fay also praises Val for his participation in the Volvo for life Awards as a panel judge, and thanks him for publicizing the program in the section of his Web site called “Latest News”. Her enthusiasm for both Val and the Volvo for life Awards shines through when she writes, “I am both honored and excited to see how seriously these awards are taken, and that the ‘hometown heroes’ are people just like me…. Thank you for using your power through the media for such humanitarian causes. Every person on that board is known for their dedication to the betterment of the lives of others and you now step into that realm among some of the best. Congratulations!”
