Nominations
Anyone may nominate a person for a Volvo for life Award. Nominees must be citizens or legal residents of the United States, including United States citizens living abroad. Nominations for the Butterfly Award are limited to children 16 and under. (Note: children must be 16 and under by October 15, 2007.) Nominations may only be made through the Volvo for life Awards Web site (www.volvoforlifeawards.com).Volvo employees, employees of its agencies and affiliates, and Volvo retailers and their employees are not eligible to receive a Volvo for life Award.
Recipients of funding from any previous cycle of the Volvo for life Awards are not eligible for this year's awards.
Voting
An online public vote from noon EST on November 1, 2007, through noon EST on January 7, 2008, will determine the three finalists in the categories of Safety, Environment, Quality of Life, and the Butterfly Award. Members of the public may vote for as many nominees as they wish. Only votes made through the online ballot on this Web site will be counted. Any votes that appear to be submitted from the same computer or IP address more than once per minute will be disqualified. A user who submits more than one vote per minute from the same computer or IP address will not be prompted that his or her votes in excess of one per minute have been disqualified. Additionally, any votes submitted from a Web browser that does not accept cookies will not be counted. Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, also reserves the right, in its sole, absolute, and non-reviewable discretion, to disqualify any votes that appear, in its reasonable judgment, to be generated by any automated system, including robotic, automatic, mechanical, programmed, or similar entry duplication methods, or that in any way disables or evades the technology in place to prevent such automated voting. In the event of a tie in any category, a tiebreaking vote will be cast by Volvo Cars of North America, LLC. All votes are final once submitted.
Judging
An initial screening panel, selected by Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, will select ten semifinalists in each category of Safety, Quality of Life, Environment, and the Butterfly Award. An online public vote will determine the three finalists in each category. A panel of independent judges will choose the winner in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life, and Environment. The winner of the Butterfly Award will be selected by the parents of Alexandra Scott and participating Volvo Retailers. The Grand Award winner will be selected from the category winners in Safety, Quality of Life, and Environment by the panel of independent judges and Volvo Cars of North America, LLC. The selection of all semifinalists, finalists, and winners is subject to ongoing review by Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, which may disqualify the selection of any individual at any time, including the revocation or termination of any awards, during or after any given awards cycle, for any reason.
Awards include:
- All semifinalists receive a certificate of merit.
- Two finalists in each of three categories – Safety, Quality of Life, and Environment – receive $25,000 each to a designated charity recognized as a tax-exempt charity under the Internal Revenue Code (called a "Qualified Charity"). Two finalists in the Butterfly Award category receive $10,000 each to a designated charity recognized as a tax-exempt charity under the Internal Revenue Code (called a "Qualified Charity").
- A winner in each category (Safety, Quality of Life, and Environment) receives a $100,000 donation to a designated charity recognized as a tax-exempt charity under the Internal Revenue Code (called a "Qualified Charity"), plus a trip to the final awards ceremony and a starring role in a Volvo for life Awards documentary film to be presented at the Gala Awards Ceremony in New York City. A winner in the Butterfly Award category receives a $25,000 donation to a designated charity recognized as a tax-exempt charity under the Internal Revenue Code (called a "Qualified Charity"), plus a trip to the final awards ceremony and a starring role in a Volvo for life Awards documentary film to be presented at the Gala Awards Ceremony in New York City.
- Grand Award winner (selected from the winners in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life, and Environment) also receives a new Volvo every three years for the rest of his or her life.
Taxes
Winners are responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes and sales tax on any award other than the Qualified Charitable contributions.
Notification
The top three finalists in each category will be notified by phone. The list of winners will be posted at this Web site after the Gala Awards Ceremony.
Verification
All winning entries will be verified. Volvo reserves the right to request additional information for verification purposes if necessary, or if Volvo, in its reasonable business judgment, determines it is desirable.

NOTE: Personal information is used for validation of entries and other purposes relating to the Volvo for life Awards and will not be displayed publicly. All information you submit on the nomination form about your nominee will not be released or published without the nominee’s consent.
Submission Dates
Nominations for the 6th Annual Volvo for life Awards will be accepted through October 15, 2007.
Group Entries
You may nominate the accomplishments of a group or organization, but only if a single individual is designated by name to accept any or all awards on behalf of the group.
Publication of Nominations
Nominations may be published as feature stories on this Web site with the consent of the nominee. Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, reserves the right to edit nominations for the purpose of press releases and for online publication. Publication of a nomination or story on this Web site or in press releases during the submission period in no way indicates that a nomination has been selected to receive an award or has been determined to be a semifinalist or finalist.
Every hero featured on the Web site and every Volvo for life Awards semifinalist, finalist, and winner will be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility/release of liability (except where prohibited by law) giving Volvo permission to use his or her name, picture, portrait, likeness, and voice for advertising, promotional and/or publicity purposes in perpetuity without additional compensation and releasing Volvo from any losses, liabilities, or damages which may occur as a result of winning.
Failure to sign and return the affidavit or release within five days of notification or to comply with any term or condition set forth in these Official Rules may result in disqualification of the winner and selection of an alternate winner. Inability to contact any winner within five days of selection, or inability to verify his or her achievement, may result in the disqualification of the winner and selection of an alternate winner.
General
By participating in the Volvo for life Awards, you agree (i) that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of, or in connection with, the Volvo for life Awards must be resolved through arbitration in the City of Newark, State of New Jersey, in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. The Arbitrator's award shall be final and binding upon the parties and judgment may be entered in any Court of the State of New Jersey having jurisdiction over the arbitration proceedings. Each dispute, claim or cause of action shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (ii) to release and discharge Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, and its administrators, legal representatives, officers, directors, employees, subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, parents, predecessors, successors, agents, independent contractors and assigns (the “Released Parties”) from any and all actions, causes of action, suits, debts, dues, sums of money, accounts, reckonings, bonds, bills, specialties, covenants, contracts, controversies, agreements, promises, variances, trespasses, direct or consequential damages, judgments, extent, executions, claims and demands whatsoever, in law, admiralty, or equity, whether known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, against Released Parties, or any one or more of the Released Parties, which you ever had, now have, or hereafter can, shall or may have which in any way arise out of or result from your participation in the Volvo for life Awards.
All federal, state, and local regulations apply. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Volvo and its agents assume no responsibility for lost, late, incomplete, mutilated, or misdirected entries; for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind; for lost or unavailable network connections; or for failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions that may interfere with the submission of a nomination.
Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, reserves the right to disqualify, for any reason whatsoever, any votes submitted to the Volvo for life Awards Web site, including any votes associated with persons believed to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Volvo for life Awards Web site or submitted by persons whom Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, believes to be causing malfunction, error, disruption, or damage.
